"It's an insane way to live"

Depeche Mode is capping off the American leg of its Touring the Angel tour with a show in Washington, DC, tonight. (Why am I not there? Long story.) Coinciding with the concert is a profile of lead singer Dave Gahan in today's Washington Post. Gahan and the boys have come a long way from the early and mid-1990s, when their Devotional tour earned the label "Most Debauched Rock and Roll Tour Ever" and when, in the span of a few years, Gahan suffered a heart attack, attempted suicide, and actually died for a few minutes after overdosing on heroin and cocaine. (Just watch the Devotional DVD -- the man's a singing and dancing heroin needle.) In the interview, the DM front man reveals that he has reached a calmer place, in which all he wants to do after a performance is watch The Simpsons and talk to his kids over the computer.
