Piccola Ends PA Gubernatorial Bid

PA State Senator Jeff Piccola has dropped out of the state's GOP gubernatorial primary. Ultimately, he simply couldn't compete with the name recognition of Lynn Swann and Bill Scranton or their bases of support in the west and east respectively. Even the central Pennsylvania Republican caucus -- which is Piccola's home turf -- realized this, indicating it would not back the senator, precipitating his withdrawal, and finally endorsing Swann by a solid margin over Scranton.

I'm sorry to see Piccola go; he was my candidate of choice, if only because I'm more familiar with him than Swann and Scranton and, frankly, like the guy and admire his ability to get things done in Harrisburg. My support now goes to Swann.
