Videos for a Friday Night

At home and bored tonight. So I spent some time digging around YouTube, unearthing these gems:

Antony and the Johnsons performing "You Are My Sister" on Letterman. What a voice! What emotion! Perhaps the most amazing, most moving live act I've seen on any late-night show. Period.

A live performance of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Maps." The singing is awful, even for Karen O (that's part of her charm, of course). After a lengthy round of dedications, she sings the first part with a towel draped over her head. Off the hook.

Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence" live from Cologne, 1998. Probably my favorite live version of this classic song. Mr. Martin L. Gore's guitar solo three-quarters of the way through is about as good as it gets. Chills, my friends. Chills.

Rilo Kiley doing The Frug at Messiah College, September 2005. If only I'd have discovered Rilo four months earlier, I could have been at this show and done The Frug with Jenny Lewis. And her outfit . . . to think this was at a Christian college!

Modest Mouse's "Float On" on the old Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn. A pretty darn tight performance that screams 2004. To me, anyway. And the lone commenter on YouTube.
